Event: Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB
Event Information
Summary
Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB is Australia’s alpine ultra and a UTMB World Series event, run in the Snowy Mountains over 26–28 November 2026. The flagship KosciMiler (161 km) headlines a full ladder: Kosci100 (106 km), Kosci50 (50 km) and Kosci30 (32 km).
The Kosci30, 50 and 100 are sold out for 2026 — but entries change hands right up to race day. Runners get injured in training and on-sell through official transfers and the event’s Facebook resale groups. Start your training block now and keep watch: tickets turn up. The Miler remains open.
Course & Elevation
Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB is Australia's alpine ultra and a UTMB World Series event, run out of the Snowy Mountains over 26–28 November 2026 with its event hub at Friday Flat, Thredbo. The flagship KosciMiler covers 161km with 5,131m of climbing from a 3:00am Friday start in Jindabyne, alongside the Kosci100 (106km), Kosci50 (50km) and Kosci30 (32km) — a full ladder from first ultra to hundred-miler.
The courses thread through Kosciuszko National Park, taking in Australia's high country at its best: the miler runs from the shores of Lake Jindabyne up to the roof of the country near Mt Kosciuszko's summit (2,222m on the course GPX) before a huge descent to the Thredbo valley floor and one final climb back over the range to the finish. Underfoot it's regarded as runnable by alpine standards, but the altitude, exposed range weather and mandatory gear requirements make it a genuine mountain event, with cut-offs from 13.5 hours (Kosci50) to 36 hours (KosciMiler) and UTMB Index points on offer at every distance.
Racing in the Snowies demands more than fitness — sustained climbing and descending strength, time-on-feet resilience, fuelling through long checkpoint gaps, and legs that still work in hour twenty. That's built in a structured, event-specific block: progressive vertical-gain long runs, back-to-back weekend sessions, night-running practice for the miler, and gear-and-nutrition rehearsals so nothing on race weekend is happening for the first time.
